Take some time at the beginning of your work day to plan out the tasks ahead and then again at the end of your work day to plan out your next day. Organize your list based on priority and pick out a few items that absolutely need to be taken care of. By following a list, you can relieve the stress of deciding what to do next and focus on the task at hand.
2. Review Your Productivity at the End of the Day
One thing successful people do differently than most people is holding themselves accountable for their actions. It isn’t enough to make a to-do list; you have to review your productivity at the end of the day and see how well you performed. Did you make all the items on your list? Einstein, Mozart and Leonardo DaVinci were all active coffee drinkers. Coffee owes its power to caffeine’s ability to block the enzyme phosphodiesterase which normally breaks down cyclic AMP. By allowing cyclic AMP, which gives your body energy, to remain in your bloodstream for longer periods of time, caffeine leaves you feeling energized while also increasing blood flow to your brain. Not a coffee drinker, have green tea instead. It gives you caffeine in lower doses, plus has a high concentration of antioxidants.
4. Use Productivity Enhancing Tools
There are many apps available on the internet today designed to help you get more organized. List building apps like Todoist, Google Tasks, Remember the Milk, Any.Do, or Toodledo can help you plan and schedule your day while you’re on the go. Services like Mint.com and TurboTax can make keeping your finances organized and filing taxes a snap. Apps like Asana, AirTable, and Trello will help you manage detailed projects.
5. Minimize Multitasking
Studies have shown that multitasking can bring productivity down by as much as 40%. You may be able to walk and chew gum at the same time, but these tasks don’t require much brain power. It turns out our brains are hardwired to prefer focusing on complex tasks one at a time. Divide big projects into simple tasks that you can handle one at a time and you’ll be done before you know it.
6. Take A Break
If you feel your productivity slipping, take a break. It may sound counterproductive, but studies show that a taking a break, hitting the gym, or taking a nap can improve your focus and increase your energy, allowing you to get back to concentrating on the task at hand.
