"Very disappointing that after six months of communication with the business development manager regarding local environmental efforts in the community concerning light pollution at night, that promises and statements of Apple Storage wanting to be a good neighbour in the community, proved to be more rhetoric than genuine. I spent a lot of time and effort, along with months of patience, conveying the importance of reducing light emissions at night, light trespass and skyglow pollution from this facility. How every business and everyone has a role to play in helping protect our night environment. I was never presented with a plan of action or any specifics as to what would be done. Instead everything I conveyed was completely ignored apparently and a large intense lit sign was installed out front with no light controls to prevent uplight into the night sky or means to reduce light trespass. The lit sign is on all night, more bright than needed, no visor/hood on top so all that energy up into the sky is wasted and adds to climate change problems. The sign uses high Kelvin white light and blasts it 360deg uncontrolled everywhere. The white high Kelvin light from this new sign, is the exact thing I informed the business development manager was extremely polluting to our night environment, damaging to eco-systems at night, people, wildlife, plants. Brightening of our night is a serious scientific problem being studies and addressed worldwide. A reason why the city of Kitchener wide LED street light conversion targeted lower Kelvin which wasn't as harmful. I pointed out many examples of nearby businesses that used gooseneck down lighting for signage illumination (like Sobeys) which is less environmentally polluting and reduces skyglow. The lit sign is a complete contradiction to the full cut off down lights on the building, most of which are architectural and serve no purpose for customer traffic since they are not even situated where customer activity occurs, if at all at 3am. Very disappointed with Apple Storage. And that communication with the business development manager has now ceased once I pointed out that the new lit sign flew in the face of local environmental efforts and everything we had discussed for the past 6 months. No replies, no actions, just proof that it was all BS apparently I was being fed. So much for wanting to be a good neighbour. If that was true an overnight lighting plan would be developed and presented, as well the lit sign would be dimmed over night, and have hood/visor added to the top like Sobey's street side sign has nearby. This is really shameful. Would be nice if the business development manager got in touch with me again, turned this into a positive and made good on promises for changes to address this Apple Storage light pollution problems."
